Citizen Water empowers communities worldwide to access healthy drinking water. It incorporates simple, inexpensive water quality test kits; clear, multi-lingual and multi-media instructions; and open source spatial mapping. This unique blend of community empowerment and global information exchange enables people—regardless of location, economic class or scientific training—to participate in improving drinking water quality in their communities.

Testing

Citizen Water empowers communities to test the quality of their water resources using simple and easily accessible test kits that evaluate coliform, E. coli, pH, turbidity, and targeted chemical contamination for $1.25 per water source. Non-technical individuals can easily use and interpret them.
Mapping

Our online database aims to use this citizen science data to match community water quality parameters with appropriate local treatment providers and to generate water quality maps that can help researchers and regulators optimize interventions.
Learning

Our multi-lingual learning modules include water testing, water treatment, and water maintenance information in written, illustrated, and video formats.
